Social media post preview
Preview a caption the way a follower will see it on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn or X. Type or paste it below and watch where each platform cuts it, with live character, hashtag and @ tag counts. Free, no signup, nothing uploaded.
The preview
0 / 2200 characters
The image stays in this tab as a local preview. Nothing is uploaded or saved.
Instagram folds the feed after the first 125 characters, per a Sendible estimate. It is not a figure Instagram documents, so the tool shows it as an estimate, not a spec.
This preview is a likeness, not the platform. The note under each frame says what the cut actually is: a documented limit or an estimate.
Three steps
Pick a platform
Choose Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn or X. The frame switches to how that platform's feed shows the post, cut and all.
Type or paste your caption
Add the caption and an optional image. The character, hashtag and @ tag counts update as you type, against the limits that platform documents.
Read the fold
The preview shows exactly where each platform cuts the caption, with an honest note under it saying whether that cut is a documented limit or an estimate.
Where each platform cuts a caption
- Instagram: the fold is an estimate
- Instagram shows the first 125 characters of a feed caption before a "more" link, a figure Sendible estimated rather than one Instagram documents. The preview marks it as an estimate, and the first line does the work: it is what a follower sees before deciding to tap. The caption ceiling behind it is 2,200 characters, per Instagram's publishing API.
- Facebook: no documented cut
- Facebook publishes no organic caption limit in its own documentation, so the preview shows the whole caption and refuses to invent a cut. Without a hard fold, the first line still does the work: it is the sentence that decides whether a follower keeps reading or scrolls past.
- LinkedIn: the limit is the cut
- LinkedIn stops a post at its own 3,000-character limit, so there is no hidden overflow to unfold. The first line matters in the feed preview instead: it is what a connection sees before opening the full post, and the cited list on this page links the limit to LinkedIn's own help page.
- X: the limit is the whole post
- X stops a post at 280 characters, its own documented limit, and the composer will not accept more. There is no "more" link to hide behind, so the opening words have to carry the post: the first line is the message, not just the hook.
A caption you write once can land differently in every feed. Instagram folds long captions behind a "more" link, LinkedIn lets a post run far longer, and X stops a post at its own tight limit. Before you schedule anything, it helps to see the post the way a follower will, on the platform it is actually going to.
This tool does that in your browser. Pick a platform, type or paste the caption, add an optional image, and the preview shows the exact fold or cut that platform applies, with a live character count and warnings when the hashtags or @ tags run past the limits the platform documents. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is saved, and the image never leaves the tab.
- Instagram's feed shows only the first 125 characters of a caption before the "more" link, per Sendible's character limit guide (17 April 2026). The fold arrives long before the documented ceiling does, so writing for the fold matters more than writing to the cap. sendible.com, read 24 August 2026
- Instagram's content publishing API sets a caption maximum of 2,200 characters, with up to 30 hashtags and 20 @ tags allowed in the same field. developers.facebook.com, read 6 August 2026
- LinkedIn documents a post limit of 3,000 characters on its own help page. linkedin.com, read 6 August 2026
- X documents a post limit of 280 characters, and its composer will not accept more. help.x.com, read 6 August 2026
Questions people ask about this
Is this post preview free?
Yes. The preview is free with no account and no signup, and it runs entirely in your browser. The caption you type and the image you add never leave the tab, and closing it destroys the draft. There is nothing to pay for the tool itself.
Does the preview post to my account or upload my image?
No. It only draws the post the way a follower would see it. It does not connect to any account, does not publish anything, and does not upload your image. The image becomes a local preview inside the tab and is discarded when you close it or remove it.
Why does my caption get cut behind a "more" link?
Some feeds fold long captions so the page stays scannable. Instagram folds after a certain number of characters, an estimate this page attributes to Sendible because Instagram does not document the figure. LinkedIn and X stop at their own documented limits instead. The note under the preview says which kind of cut you are looking at.
What can this preview get wrong?
The frames are a reasonable likeness, not a pixel-perfect copy of each app. Fonts, spacing, dark mode and app updates all change how a post really renders, and the Instagram fold is an estimate rather than a spec. Treat the preview as a close look at the cut and the counts, then check the real app before you publish.
How is this different from the full product?
This tool previews one caption you paste in, in your browser. The full product generates the captions, images and video from your own brand, then schedules and publishes them, with every post previewed the same way before it goes out. That work lives behind a free account.
From one preview to every post, previewed
The product previews every post the way this tool previews one: in a platform frame, with the cut, the character count and the tag warnings, before anything is scheduled. 300 credits a month refilled forever, one free campaign a week (3 posts, 1 video, 1 cross-post), no card, watermarked media on free
