Instagram grid planner

Plan your Instagram grid for free: add up to 18 images, arrange them in the 3:4 grid Instagram now shows, and see how your feed reads newest-first. Runs in your browser, nothing uploaded, no account.

0 of 18 images

Add up to 18 images and they will appear here as the profile grid Instagram shows, newest first, top left.

Drag to reorder on a computer, or tap a tile and use the arrow keys.

Nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored on a server. Images stay in this tab, and your order is saved in this tab so a refresh keeps the layout.

How to plan a grid that looks good for a local business

Three moves, in order. The goal is the profile a new visitor reads in the first ten seconds.

  1. Open with your newest proof, not your logo

Make the newest tile a finished job, a before-and-after, or a real customer photo. It is the first tile a visitor reads, and it says what you actually do better than a logo does.

  2. Alternate proof and offers so it reads like work

Lay out your rows so a proof tile (a job, a review, a behind-the-scenes shot) sits next to an offer tile. A grid that is all ads reads like a billboard; a grid that shows the work earns the ask.

  3. Keep each row of three visually tied

Plan three tiles at a time so a row shares one color, one location, or one theme. A row that looks planned reads as a feed that is cared for, which is the whole point of arranging before you post.

What the profile grid crops

The grid changed in January 2025, and the crop is where most plans go wrong.

The grid is 3:4 now, not square

Since January 2025 Instagram shows every profile-grid tile as a 3:4 portrait crop. Your square or landscape post still uploads, but the grid center-crops it into a portrait frame, so the edges you see on the post may not survive the grid.

The center survives, the edges get trimmed

Instagram crops the middle of each image to fill the 3:4 frame. Keep the subject, the text and the logo in the center third, and treat the edges as expendable.

Instagram publishes no grid-tile ratio

The only ratio Instagram documents for feed posts is between 4:5 and 1.91:1 (its publishing API), and it does not publish a fixed ratio for the profile-grid tiles themselves. The 3:4 frame is what the app shows, cited to the sources below.

What the sources say

  • Instagram's publishing API documents JPEG only, an 8MB maximum, an aspect ratio between 4:5 and 1.91:1, and a width from 320 to 1440 pixels for feed images. developers.facebook.com, read 15 September 2026
  • Instagram switched the profile grid from square to a 3:4 portrait crop in January 2025, and it center-crops every thumbnail to that shape regardless of the ratio the post was uploaded at. kapwing.com, read 18 September 2026

Questions about the grid planner

  • Is this Instagram grid planner free?

Yes. It runs entirely in your browser with no account, no signup and no credit card. Add up to 18 images, drag them into order and remove them again, all in this tab. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored on a server.

  • Do my images get uploaded anywhere?

No. Images are read straight from your device into this tab and never leave it. The tool keeps only the order and the file names in your browser's session storage so a refresh keeps the layout, and it cannot keep the pictures themselves after a refresh, so restored tiles ask you to re-add them.

  • What ratio does the Instagram profile grid use?

Instagram shows every grid tile as a 3:4 portrait crop since January 2025, and it center-crops each thumbnail to that shape. It does not publish a fixed grid-tile ratio; the only figure it documents for feed posts is between 4:5 and 1.91:1. Both sources are cited on this page.

  • How do I plan a grid that looks good for my business?

Put your newest proof or finished work in the top-left tile, alternate proof with offers so the feed reads as real work rather than ads, and plan each row of three around one color or theme. The three tactics above walk through the same order.

  • How is this different from the full product?

This tool plans a grid and nothing else. The full product writes the captions, images and video, schedules them, and publishes them across your channels on one calendar. This page is the free, no-account preview of one part of that.

Plan the grid, then let the posts make themselves

The full product writes the captions, images and video, schedules them, and publishes them across your channels on one calendar. 300 credits a month refilled forever, one free campaign a week (3 posts, 1 video, 1 cross-post), no card, watermarked media on free
