Ranked for musicians and bands

Best social media tools for musicians in 2026

Eight tools ranked by how much of the whole job of posting each does before an artist pays anything: the post written, the image and a short video made, and the post published. Prices were read from each vendor's own page on 2 October 2026 by a company that sells one of the eight, which it says before the list.

SpeedRun Social is entry one and starts free: one campaign a week with 3 posts, 1 video and 1 cross-post, plus 300 credits a month refilled forever. No card, and free-plan media carries a small watermark.

Six weeks before the single drops, the artwork is final and the pre-save link is live, but nobody has written a single post about it. SpeedRun Social ranks first here because it reads the artist's site, writes the posts, makes the images and a short video, and publishes them on a free plan.

Said first, because it matters: SpeedRun Social is ours, and it holds first place on one criterion, the whole job of posting done before an artist pays anything. A release post gets one chance at a date, a link and a title spelled right, so every post waits in an approval queue until you clear it.

These eight do three different jobs. Five post to social media, one is a link-in-bio page that adds scheduling at its top tier, and two run the release itself, pre-saves, smart links and fan messages, without posting anywhere. Most artists end up with one from each group, so each entry says which job it takes.

The whole job, cell by cell

The same eight tools, read the way the ranking reads them, with a last column for the release tools that handle pre-saves and smart links. A cell says what the vendor's own page said on 2 October 2026, never more.

The eight tools, ranked

Every priced claim below links to the vendor page it was read from and the date it was read. Where a vendor publishes a monthly price and an annual one, both are quoted.

  1. SpeedRun Social

    our product

    AI content generator

The one that writes, designs and publishes the release run

SpeedRun Social reads an artist's site, photos included, into a brand kit, then writes each post, makes the image and a short video from a press or live photo, and publishes to Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and eight other channels once you approve it. It does the posting half of a release, the announcement, the countdown and the day itself, and none of the music half: no pre-saves, no smart links, no fan messaging. Disclosure: this is our product and this is our list, and it sits first because its free plan is the only one here that does the whole posting job.

    What SpeedRun Social costs
SpeedRun Social's free plan: 300 credits a month refilled forever, one free campaign a week (3 posts, 1 video, 1 cross-post), no card, watermarked media on free. SpeedRun Social's paid plans are $49.99, $99.99 and $199.99 a month billed monthly, or $39.99, $79.99 and $159.99 a month billed annually. speedrunsocial.com/pricing, checked 2 October 2026
Who SpeedRun Social is best for
SpeedRun Social suits a solo artist or a band with a website and a release coming, which wants the posts around it written, designed and published without a manager, held for a yes first.

    SpeedRun Social: honest limitation

SpeedRun Social makes no pre-save or smart link and sends no fan messages, the jobs Feature.fm and Laylo exist for, and it costs more than Publer for an artist who writes their own posts. Free-plan media carries a watermark, and we are the youngest company on this page. speedrunsocial.com/pricing, checked 2 October 2026

  2. Publer

    Scheduler

AI captions and photos on every plan, Reels and Shorts supported

Publer is a scheduler priced per social account whose AI Assist writes captions and creates photos on every plan, free included, and it names Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts among the post types it publishes. It makes no video and nothing for the release itself, so the clip and the pre-save link come from elsewhere.

    What Publer costs
Publer's plans page listed a free plan at $0.00 with 1 user, 3 social accounts excluding X, 10 scheduled posts per account and a 24-hour post history. Professional read $5.00 a month billed monthly or $4.00 billed yearly, and Business $10.00 billed monthly or $8.00 billed yearly, per social account. publer.com/plans, checked 2 October 2026
    Who Publer is best for
Publer suits an artist who writes their own captions, wants the posting queued across Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, and wants AI help for a few dollars a month.

    Publer: honest limitation

Publer makes no video, and its free plan holds 10 scheduled posts per account and keeps published posts for only 24 hours. Pricing is per social account, so Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Facebook count as four. publer.com/plans, checked 2 October 2026

  3. Buffer

    Scheduler

Free for three channels, with AI that polishes what you wrote

Buffer is a scheduler priced per channel with a free plan for three channels, enough for Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. Its AI Assistant refines text you supply and it makes no images or video, so the artwork and the clips are the artist's job.

    What Buffer costs
Buffer's pricing page listed a free plan for up to 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts per channel and 1 user. Essentials read $6 a month per channel billed monthly or $5 billed yearly ($60 a year), and Team $12 a month per channel billed monthly or $10 billed yearly, with unlimited team members. buffer.com/pricing, checked 2 October 2026
    Who Buffer is best for
Buffer suits an artist who makes their own artwork and clips and wants a simple queue on three channels for nothing, or a few dollars a channel later.

    Buffer: honest limitation

Buffer writes nothing from scratch and makes no images or video, and its free plan stops at 10 scheduled posts per channel, a short runway for a release campaign. Essentials adds unlimited scheduled posts at $6 a channel a month billed monthly. buffer.com/pricing, checked 2 October 2026

  4. Metricool

    Scheduler and analytics

Free for one brand, Twitch included, with reporting attached

Metricool is a scheduler with analytics, priced per brand, whose free plan covers Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Twitch and the other networks except LinkedIn and X for one brand. Its analytics and competitor tracking help an artist see which posts moved anything, but it makes no images or video.

    What Metricool costs
Metricool's pricing page printed both ladders. Billed monthly, Starter read from $25 a month for up to 5 brands and Advanced from $67 a month for 15. Billed annually, the same tiers read from $20 and from $53 a month. The free plan covers 1 brand, every network except LinkedIn and X, and 20 scheduled posts a month. metricool.com/pricing, checked 2 October 2026
    Who Metricool is best for
Metricool suits an artist or a small label who wants to see what each post did across platforms, with posting and reporting in one place.

    Metricool: honest limitation

Metricool makes no images or video, its free plan caps scheduling at 20 posts a month, and its pricing page does not say what its AI assistant produces. Its paid tiers are priced for several brands, from $25 a month billed monthly for up to 5. metricool.com/pricing, checked 2 October 2026

  5. Later

    Visual scheduler

Visual planning with Reels audio, no free plan

Later is a visual-first scheduler for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and five other networks, with a link-in-bio page on every plan and Instagram Reels audio listed on Starter. Its AI content tools come in small monthly credit amounts and its pricing page does not say whether they write or design, so the clip and the caption are still yours.

    What Later costs
Later's pricing page opened on Bill Yearly: Starter read $18.75 a month billed yearly, Growth $37.50 and Scale $82.50. With Bill Monthly selected they read $25.00, $50.00 and $110.00 a month billed monthly. Starter covers 1 social set of 8 profiles, 1 user, 30 posts per profile a month and 5 AI credits a month, and every plan starts with a 14-day free trial. later.com/pricing, checked 2 October 2026
    Who Later is best for
Later suits an artist who plans the feed visually around artwork and clips and wants a link-in-bio page that lives with the schedule.

    Later: honest limitation

Later has no free plan, only a 14-day trial, and Starter holds 30 posts per profile a month and 5 AI credits without saying what one buys. Extra social sets, users and AI credits are not available on Starter. later.com/pricing, checked 2 October 2026

  6. Linktree

    Link-in-bio page

The link in bio, with post scheduling on Premium

Linktree is a link-in-bio page that sends visitors to streams, merch and shows from one link, and its Premium plan adds social media scheduling and Instagram auto-replies. Its free plan posts nothing, so the scheduling arrives only at its top self-serve tier.

    What Linktree costs
Linktree's pricing page listed Starter at $8 billed monthly or $6 a month billed annually, Pro at $15 billed monthly or $12 a month billed annually, and Premium at $35 billed monthly or $30 a month billed annually, with social media scheduling and Instagram auto-replies on Premium. The free plan covers unlimited basic links and email and phone sign-ups. linktr.ee/s/pricing, checked 2 October 2026
    Who Linktree is best for
Linktree suits an artist whose fans arrive through one link in a bio and who wants scheduling and auto-replies added to the page they already share.

    Linktree: honest limitation

Linktree's free and cheaper plans schedule nothing, and its pricing page names no caption writing or image and video generation. Social scheduling sits on Premium, $35 billed monthly. linktr.ee/s/pricing, checked 2 October 2026

  7. Feature.fm

    Music marketing links

Pre-saves and smart links, no posting

Feature.fm is music marketing software for pre-saves, smart links, an artist bio link, tour links and contests, with a free plan and paid tiers that open every streaming service and more fan data. It promotes the release itself and posts nothing to a feed, so it sits beside a posting tool rather than in place of one.

    What Feature.fm costs
Feature.fm's pricing page showed monthly prices of $39 for Pro Artist, $19 for Artist and $8 for Basic Artist, and $35, $17 and $7 a month billed annually. The free plan keeps unlimited links and landing pages with one pre-save service, and every plan comes with a 7-day free trial of Pro Artist. feature.fm/pricing, checked 2 October 2026
    Who Feature.fm is best for
Feature.fm suits an artist planning a release who needs pre-saves, a smart link on release day and fan emails collected, and who shares the links with another tool.

    Feature.fm: honest limitation

Feature.fm writes no posts, makes no images or video and publishes nothing to social media; its pricing page lists links, pre-saves, contests and fan data. The free plan offers one pre-save service, and full access to collected fan emails starts on Pro Artist. feature.fm/pricing, checked 2 October 2026

  8. Laylo

    Fan messaging and drops

Drops and fan messages, no feed posting

Laylo is a drop and fan-messaging platform: custom drops, tour and schedule pages, Instagram DMs, Spotify presaves and a Shopify integration, with messaging paid by credit. It reaches fans directly when a release or a ticket drops, and it does not publish to a feed.

    What Laylo costs
Laylo's pricing page listed Pro at $25 a month billed monthly or $300 billed annually, with the annual plan including 25,000 message credits. Messaging is pay as you go at $150 for 75,000 credits, with an Instagram DM costing 10 credits and an email 1. laylo.com/pricing, checked 2 October 2026
    Who Laylo is best for
Laylo suits an artist with a following large enough to message, who wants fans told the moment a release, a ticket or merch drops.

    Laylo: honest limitation

Laylo publishes nothing to a social feed and writes no posts, and every fan message spends credits on top of the plan. Its pricing page shows a start-for-free button without listing a free plan's limits. laylo.com/pricing, checked 2 October 2026

How this list was ranked

The stake first: we build SpeedRun Social, it is entry one of eight, and it sits above Publer and Buffer, two schedulers we do not own. A list written by one of its entrants deserves suspicion until the stake is on the table, so here it is.

Each figure was read on 2 October 2026 from the vendor's own pricing page in a real browser, with the address checked and the monthly and yearly views both opened. None of it comes from a review site, a forum thread or an assistant's answer.

Every price carries its billing mode. Every vendor here prints a monthly and an annual figure, and both are quoted, including SpeedRun Social's own.

The ranking rule: how much of the whole job a tool does before an artist pays anything, meaning the post written, the image and a short video made, and the post published, then the cheapest price for the whole job. Free plans that cover more of it rank higher; tools without a free plan that posts rank by the monthly price of their cheapest plan that does, and the release tools that never post come last for this list's purpose, not for theirs.

A release has two halves. The music half is the pre-save, the smart link, the fan email and the drop, which Feature.fm and Laylo handle and SpeedRun Social does not. The posting half is the run of announcements, countdowns and release-day posts, which is what this list ranks.

No stars, no stream counts, no customer numbers. Each claim links to the page it came from with the date it was read, so a price that moved since then is the vendor's to confirm.

The honest part

Publer is the cheaper choice for an artist who writes their own captions: $5.00 a month billed monthly per social account, with AI captions and photos on every plan.

Feature.fm and Laylo do the half of a release SpeedRun Social does not touch, pre-saves, smart links and fan messages, and an artist with a release coming probably wants one of them alongside any posting tool. Linktree is the choice when the bio link is the center of everything and scheduling can live there too.

What we will not claim: no stream counts, no ratings, no customer numbers, no promise that posting gets a song heard. We are the youngest company on this page, ranked first for one stated reason, the whole posting job on a free plan.

Questions artists ask about this list

  • What is the best social media tool for musicians?

SpeedRun Social, our own product, on the criterion this page ranks by: it writes the posts, makes the images and a short video, and publishes them after you approve, on a free plan with no end date. For pre-saves and smart links, Feature.fm is the specialist, and for messaging fans directly, Laylo; both are ranked below with their own prices.

  • How should a musician promote a new single on social media?

Start four to six weeks out with an announcement and the pre-save link, post the artwork, a clip and a behind-the-scenes moment in the weeks between, and post again on release day with the smart link. A posting tool carries that run; a pre-save tool such as Feature.fm or Laylo carries the link and the fan list.

  • Can these tools post to TikTok and YouTube?

SpeedRun Social, Publer, Buffer, Metricool and Later all name TikTok and YouTube among the networks they publish to. Linktree's scheduling sits on its Premium plan, and Feature.fm and Laylo post to neither, by design.

  • Is there a free social media tool for musicians?

Publer, Buffer and Metricool keep free plans that post, with no end date: 3 social accounts, 3 channels and 1 brand respectively. Linktree and Feature.fm keep free plans that do not post. Ours is 300 credits a month refilled forever, one free campaign a week (3 posts, 1 video, 1 cross-post), no card, watermarked media on free. Later runs a 14-day trial, and Laylo shows a start-for-free button without listing a free plan's limits.

  • What does a musician pay for social media tools?

On the pages read on 2 October 2026: Publer Professional at $5.00 a month billed monthly or $4.00 billed yearly per social account, Buffer Essentials at $6 a channel a month billed monthly or $5 billed yearly, Linktree Premium with scheduling at $35 billed monthly or $30 a month billed annually, and Feature.fm's Basic Artist at $8 a month billed monthly or $7 billed annually. SpeedRun Social's paid plans start at $49.99 a month billed monthly or $39.99 a month billed annually.

  • Do I need a pre-save tool and a posting tool?

Usually, yes, because no tool on this list does both. A pre-save tool such as Feature.fm or Laylo turns interest into saves and contacts; a posting tool keeps the release in front of people for six weeks. SpeedRun Social is the posting half, and says so.

  • Will SpeedRun Social write in my voice?

It writes from what your site and brand kit say about you, and you edit or approve every post before it goes out, so the voice ends up yours. An artist with a sharp personal tone will still rewrite a few lines, and that is the right amount of editing to expect.

Put one release through it

The free plans and trials above exist so an artist can put one real release through two tools and compare what comes back. Ours has no countdown, and every post waits for your yes before it publishes.
