Ranked for software companies

Best social media tools for SaaS companies in 2026

Eight tools ranked by how much of the whole job each does before a software company pays anything: the post written, the image and a short video made, both published to LinkedIn and X. Every price was read from the vendor's own page on 2 October 2026, by a company that sells one of the eight.

SpeedRun Social is entry one and starts free: one campaign a week with 3 posts, 1 video and 1 cross-post, plus 300 credits a month refilled forever. No card, and free-plan media carries a small watermark.

The changelog ships on Tuesday, the docs page is updated by Wednesday, and the company feed still says nothing by Friday. SpeedRun Social ranks first here because it reads that product site, writes the post, makes the image and a short video, and publishes to LinkedIn and X on a free plan.

Our stake, said first: SpeedRun Social is ours, and it holds first place on one criterion, the whole job done before you pay anything. A software company's post is easy to get wrong in public, a feature still in beta or a price that changed last week, so every post waits in an approval queue until someone on the team clears it.

These eight are not one kind of software. Two are writing tools for founders who post under their own name, three are schedulers that publish what you hand them, two are management suites sold per seat, and one, ours, makes the post from the product site. Each entry names its kind above its price, so skip the rows that answer a different question.

The whole job, cell by cell

The same eight tools, read the way the ranking reads them: who writes, who makes the visuals, who publishes, and who does it on a free plan. A cell says what the vendor's own page said on 2 October 2026, never more.

Every priced claim below links to the vendor page it was read from and the date it was read. Where a vendor publishes a monthly price and an annual one, both are quoted.

  1. SpeedRun Social

    our product

    AI content generator

The one that writes, designs and publishes from your product site

SpeedRun Social reads your product site into a brand kit, then writes the post in your product's own terms, makes the image, makes a short video that starts from a photo on your own pages where it finds one, and publishes to LinkedIn, X and nine other channels once you approve it. That approval queue matters more for software than for most trades, because a post announcing a feature still in beta is a support ticket waiting to happen. Disclosure: this is our product and this is our list, and it sits first because it is the only entry here whose free plan does the whole job.

    What SpeedRun Social costs
SpeedRun Social's free plan: 300 credits a month refilled forever, one free campaign a week (3 posts, 1 video, 1 cross-post), no card, watermarked media on free. SpeedRun Social's paid plans are $49.99, $99.99 and $199.99 a month billed monthly, or $39.99, $79.99 and $159.99 a month billed annually. speedrunsocial.com/pricing, checked 2 October 2026
Who SpeedRun Social is best for
SpeedRun Social suits a software company with a real product site and nobody whose job is the company feed, which wants posts written, designed and published to LinkedIn and X from what the site already says, held for a yes before anything goes out.

    SpeedRun Social: honest limitation

SpeedRun Social is not made for a founder posting under their own name, the job Typefully and Taplio exist for, and it costs more than Publer or Buffer for a team that already writes its own posts. Free-plan media carries a watermark, and we are the youngest company on this page. speedrunsocial.com/pricing, checked 2 October 2026

  2. Publer

    Scheduler

The cheapest queue, with AI text and images on every plan

Publer is a scheduler priced per social account, and its plans page lists an AI Assist under Included In All that writes text and creates photos, which makes its free plan the closest any rival here gets to the whole job. It makes no video, and its free plan cannot connect an X account at all, so a software company that lives on X pays from the first day.

    What Publer costs
Publer's plans page listed a free plan at $0.00 with 1 user, 3 social accounts excluding X, 10 scheduled posts per account and a 24-hour post history. Professional read $5.00 a month billed monthly or $4.00 a month billed yearly, and Business read $10.00 a month billed monthly or $8.00 a month billed yearly, with unlimited AI prompts on Business. Pricing is per social account. publer.com/plans, checked 2 October 2026
    Who Publer is best for
Publer suits a small software team that writes or prompts its own posts, wants text and images made for a few dollars a month, and publishes mostly to LinkedIn and the visual networks.

    Publer: honest limitation

Publer makes no video, and its free plan excludes X and keeps published posts for only 24 hours. Pricing is per social account, so a company posting to LinkedIn, X, Instagram and YouTube pays for four accounts, and nothing on the plans page says its AI reads your product site. publer.com/plans, checked 2 October 2026

  3. Buffer

    Scheduler

Free for three channels, with AI that polishes what you wrote

Buffer is a scheduler priced per channel, with a free plan for up to three channels that already covers LinkedIn and X. Its AI Assistant refines and repurposes text you supply, and its pricing page lists no image or video generation, so the launch screenshot and the demo clip still come from your team.

    What Buffer costs
Buffer's pricing page listed a free plan for up to 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts per channel and 1 user. Essentials read $6 a month per channel billed monthly or $5 a month per channel billed yearly ($60 a year), and Team read $12 a month per channel billed monthly or $10 billed yearly ($120 a year), with unlimited team members and content approval workflows on Team. buffer.com/pricing, checked 2 October 2026
    Who Buffer is best for
Buffer suits a founder or a two-person marketing team that writes its own posts, needs LinkedIn and X covered for nothing or for a few dollars a channel, and wants a calm queue rather than a content engine.

    Buffer: honest limitation

Buffer writes nothing from scratch: its AI Assistant is described as refining and repurposing your content, and no image or video generation is listed on any plan. The bill grows with every channel, and approval workflows start on Team at $12 a channel a month billed monthly. buffer.com/pricing, checked 2 October 2026

  4. Typefully

    Writing and scheduling app

The founder's writing desk for X and LinkedIn

Typefully is a writing app for people who post under their own name, publishing to X, LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon and Substack, with AI that rewrites and improves a draft on its paid plans. That suits a founder whose own voice is the marketing; a company page that needs images and video gets neither from it.

    What Typefully costs
Typefully's pricing page listed a free plan at $0 with 1 social set, 1 user and 10 posts a month. Creator read $99 a year, annual billing only, with AI writing features and X analytics, and Business read $20 a month per social set billed monthly or $18 a month per social set billed yearly, with unlimited users. typefully.com/pricing, checked 2 October 2026
    Who Typefully is best for
Typefully suits a technical founder who writes threads and LinkedIn posts personally, wants a clean editor, scheduling and X analytics, and treats the company page as a separate job.

    Typefully: honest limitation

Typefully makes no images and no video, publishes to no Instagram, Facebook or TikTok account, and keeps its AI writing on the Creator plan, $99 a year with annual billing only. The free plan's 10 posts a month cover a founder's best week, not a company's month. typefully.com/pricing, checked 2 October 2026

  5. Metricool

    Scheduler and analytics

The numbers behind the feed, with LinkedIn from the first paid tier

Metricool is a scheduler with analytics and competitor tracking attached, priced per brand, and its free plan covers one brand on every network except LinkedIn and X. For a software company that leaves out the two networks that matter most, so the free plan is a trial run for Instagram and YouTube rather than for the company page.

    What Metricool costs
Metricool's pricing page printed both ladders. Billed monthly, Starter read from $25 a month for up to 5 brands and $45 for up to 10, and Advanced from $67 a month for 15 brands up to $210 for 50. Billed annually, Starter read from $20 a month and $36, and Advanced from $53 up to $159. The free plan covers 1 brand, every network except LinkedIn and X, and 20 scheduled posts a month. metricool.com/pricing, checked 2 October 2026
    Who Metricool is best for
Metricool suits a software company with a marketing lead who wants posting and reporting in one place, pays for LinkedIn from the Starter tier and adds X as an extra.

    Metricool: honest limitation

Metricool makes no images and no video, its LinkedIn connection starts on Starter and X is sold as an add-on, and its pricing page does not say what its AI social media assistant produces. The post approval system starts on Advanced, from $67 a month billed monthly. metricool.com/pricing, checked 2 October 2026

  6. Taplio

    LinkedIn growth tool

LinkedIn only, with AI writing from the middle tier

Taplio is a LinkedIn tool for personal brands: a library of past posts for ideas, AI that writes LinkedIn posts, scheduling and analytics, all for one network. It publishes nowhere else, so X, Instagram and the company's video channel stay somebody else's job.

    What Taplio costs
Taplio's pricing page opened on Monthly: Starter read $39 a month, Growth $69 and Pro $199, each billed monthly. With Yearly selected the same three read $32, $49 and $149 a month, billed annually as $384, $588 and $1,188. AI credits start on Growth, 250 a month, and are unlimited on Pro, and every plan begins with a 7-day free trial. taplio.com/pricing, checked 2 October 2026
    Who Taplio is best for
Taplio suits a founder or a sales lead whose pipeline comes from their own LinkedIn profile and who will pay for AI writing that only ever posts there.

    Taplio: honest limitation

Taplio has no free plan, its cheapest tier writes nothing with AI, and it posts to LinkedIn alone. Starting the 7-day trial means creating an account and picking a plan first, and its pricing page names no image or video generation. taplio.com/pricing, checked 2 October 2026

  7. Hootsuite

    Management suite

AI posts and images, priced per user on annual billing

Hootsuite is a management suite priced per user, whose Standard plan lists post and image generation with AI, scheduling, an inbox and brand monitoring for up to 10 social accounts. The AI is there; the price is the obstacle, because every seat costs the same and the plans page prints only annual figures.

    What Hootsuite costs
Hootsuite's plans page listed Standard at $99 per user a month, Professional at $199 and Advanced at $399, all billed annually, with no month-to-month price printed and a free 14-day trial on each. Standard covers up to 10 social accounts, and review-and-approve workflows are listed on Advanced. hootsuite.com/plans, checked 2 October 2026
    Who Hootsuite is best for
Hootsuite suits a software company with a social team of two or more, a support inbox to run on social, and a budget that already buys software by the seat.

    Hootsuite: honest limitation

Hootsuite has no free plan, and a second person doubles the bill before anything else changes. Its plans page names no video generation, and the approval step a product team wants before a launch post is listed on Advanced, $399 per user a month billed annually, with no month-to-month price printed. hootsuite.com/plans, checked 2 October 2026

  8. Sprout Social

    Management suite

The per-seat suite, with AI Assist for posts from Professional

Sprout Social is a management suite sold per seat on annual billing, built for teams that run publishing, an inbox, reviews and reporting from one place. Its AI Assist for posts is listed from the Professional plan, so the writing help arrives at the highest entry price on this page.

    What Sprout Social costs
Sprout Social's pricing page offered a 30-day free trial with no credit card and annual billing. Essentials read $79 per seat a month, or $99 per seat a month billed monthly, for up to 5 social profiles. Standard read $199, Professional $299 and Advanced $399 per seat a month on annual billing, with no month-to-month price printed for those three. sproutsocial.com/pricing, checked 2 October 2026
Who Sprout Social is best for
Sprout Social suits a software company with a dedicated social or community team that needs shared inboxes, review management and reporting, and that buys software by the seat.

    Sprout Social: honest limitation

Sprout Social has no free plan, and its AI Assist for posts is listed from Professional at $299 per seat a month on annual billing, with no month-to-month price printed. Its pricing page names no image or video generation, so the visuals still come from your team. sproutsocial.com/pricing, checked 2 October 2026

How this list was ranked

The stake first: we build SpeedRun Social, it is entry one of eight, and it sits above Publer and Buffer, two schedulers we do not own. A roundup written by one of its entrants is worth reading only when the stake is printed before the ranking, so it is printed here.

Every figure on this page was read off the vendor's own pricing page on 2 October 2026 in a real browser, with the address bar checked against the address requested and each billing control pressed both ways. Nothing was restated from a review site, another roundup or an assistant's answer.

Billing modes are named wherever a price appears. Where a vendor prints a monthly and an annual figure, both are quoted. Hootsuite prints only annual figures and Typefully sells Creator on annual billing only, and those entries say so rather than inventing a monthly number. SpeedRun Social's own prices are quoted in both modes for the same reason.

The ranking rule is the one written at the top: how much of the whole job a tool does before you pay anything, meaning the post written, the image and a short video made, and both published to LinkedIn and X, then the cheapest price for the whole job. Tools whose free plan does part of it rank by how much; tools with no free plan rank by the monthly price of the cheapest plan that writes posts and publishes to LinkedIn.

Software companies lose more to a wrong post than most businesses do. A screenshot of a feature that has not shipped, a price from last quarter or a customer logo nobody cleared can all go out on a schedule. That is why the approval step counts here, and why the entries name the plan where each vendor's page puts it.

No stars, no scores, no customer counts, ours least of all. Every claim links to the page it came from with the date it was read, so a figure that moved since then is one to recheck at the source.

The honest part

Publer is the cheaper choice if your team already writes its posts and mostly needs them queued. Its Professional plan is $5.00 a month billed monthly per social account, its AI Assist writes text and makes photos on every plan, and that is far less than SpeedRun Social's cheapest paid plan.

Typefully and Taplio are the choice when the founder's own name is the channel. Neither makes images or video, but both exist to help a person write posts they sign, and SpeedRun Social does not. Buffer is the choice for a team that only needs LinkedIn and X queued for nothing.

What we will not claim: no ratings, no customer counts, no wall of logos, no promise that posting fills a pipeline. We are the youngest company on this page. The one thing we can say plainly is the reason we rank first, the whole job on a free plan, and we still name the rivals that beat us on price and on founder writing.

Questions software teams ask about this list

  • What is the best social media tool for a SaaS company?

SpeedRun Social, our own product, on the criterion this page ranks by: it writes the post from your product site, makes the image and a short video, and publishes to LinkedIn and X, all on a free plan with no end date. If your founder writes the posts personally, Typefully and Taplio exist for that, and if you only need a queue, Publer and Buffer cost less; all of them are ranked below with their own prices.

  • Which of these tools writes LinkedIn and X posts for a software company?

Several write, in different ways. SpeedRun Social writes from your product site and makes the visuals too. Publer's AI Assist writes from a prompt on every plan, Typefully rewrites your drafts on its paid plans, Taplio writes LinkedIn posts from its Growth tier, and Hootsuite lists post generation on Standard. Buffer only refines what you wrote, and Metricool's page does not say what its assistant produces.

  • Do any of these hold a post for approval before it goes out?

SpeedRun Social holds every post in an approval queue by default, on every plan, free included. Among the rivals, Buffer lists content approval workflows on Team, Metricool lists a post approval system on Advanced, and Hootsuite lists review and approve on Advanced. Check the vendor's own page for the plan you would buy, because approval is usually a paid feature.

  • Is there a free social media tool for SaaS companies?

Five on this list keep free plans with no end date, ours included. Buffer's covers 3 channels including LinkedIn and X, Publer's covers 3 accounts but not X, Typefully's allows 10 posts a month, and Metricool's leaves out LinkedIn and X. Ours is 300 credits a month refilled forever, one free campaign a week (3 posts, 1 video, 1 cross-post), no card, watermarked media on free. Taplio, Hootsuite and Sprout Social run trials instead of free plans.

  • What is the cheapest social media tool for a startup?

On the pages read on 2 October 2026, the cheapest paid plan was Publer Professional at $5.00 a month billed monthly or $4.00 a month billed yearly, per social account, and Buffer Essentials was $6 a month per channel billed monthly or $5 billed yearly. SpeedRun Social's paid plans start at $49.99 a month billed monthly or $39.99 a month billed annually, and its free plan already does the whole job with a watermark.

  • Should a SaaS company post from the company page or the founder's profile?

Usually both, and they want different tools. A founder's profile carries opinions and lessons in the first person, which is the job Typefully and Taplio exist for. The company page carries launches, how-tos and release notes, which is the job SpeedRun Social does from the product site. A small team can run the company page on our free plan and the founder's profile on Typefully's free plan while it decides what to pay for.

  • Does SpeedRun Social replace a product marketer?

No. It drafts, designs and publishes the routine posts a small software company falls behind on, and a person still decides what is true about the product before anything goes out. Deciding that is the part no tool on this list should do for you.

Run one release through it

The free plans and trials above exist so a software team can put one real release through two tools and compare what comes back. Ours has no countdown, and every post waits for your yes before it publishes.

Every vendor figure on this page was read on 2 October 2026. Prices move; the links exist so you can check theirs and ours.
