Comparison
Buffer moves your posts. SpeedRun makes them.
SpeedRun Social turns your website into finished posts, caption, image and short video, and publishes after you approve. One question decides this comparison: who produces your content each week?
No account, no email, no card. One post from your own website.
The posts it produces
Three local businesses, one generator, nothing scheduled from a library.
Copperline Plumbing
Demo brand

Summit & Grind Coffee
Demo brand

Front Range Lawn & Turf
Demo brand

Straight out of the generator, self-hosted, and never stock photography. Every card is marked "Demo brand": a business we built ourselves to show a trade we have no customer in yet.
The queue is not the work
Buffer is a queue with good manners. You connect up to 3 channels free or pay $6 a month per channel on Essentials, $5 if you prepay the year, load each channel with posts you already made, and Buffer sends them out on the slots you set. Its AI Assistant ships on every plan with unlimited credits, and it works on words you hand it: refine a draft, repurpose one caption for another platform. The content itself walks in the door finished, which is exactly why Buffer can stay cheap.
SpeedRun starts before the queue exists. It reads your website into a Brand Kit, then writes the caption, renders the image and cuts the short video for every post in the week. You approve or edit in a review queue, and approved posts publish natively to eleven platforms. It costs more than Buffer because the price buys the labour Buffer assumes you already spent: $49.99 a month on Starter, with the making included.
The distinction decides real weeks. A calendar is never the reason a small business stops posting; the empty Tuesday is. If your camera roll and drafts folder are full, Buffer's model fits you and costs less. If the drafts folder is the problem, a cheaper queue only makes the silence better organised.
The same week, run two ways
Feature grids flatter both sides. A calendar week shows who does the work.
A week on Buffer
Monday, you write. Whatever the week needs (captions, images, a clip) exists because you or someone you pay produced it, and Buffer takes it from there with real competence: slots fire on time, drafts hold your backlog, the assistant tidies a caption per platform. The tool never breaks its promise, because its promise begins after the content exists.
A week on SpeedRun
Monday, the campaign is waiting: three image posts, a short video and a cross-post, drawn from your site's services and photography. You change a line, swap one image, approve the rest, and the posts publish natively on their schedule. The publishing is the same competence Buffer sells. The difference is that the queue filled itself, and your Monday was judgment rather than production.
Side by side, with sources
Every Buffer number below was read off buffer.com on 28 August 2026 and links to its source.
| What to compare | SpeedRun Social | Buffer |
|---|---|---|
| Who makes the post | SpeedRun writes the caption, generates the image and the short video from your Brand Kit, then holds all of it in a review queue until you approve. Publishing is native, on the schedule you set. | The pricing page listed the AI Assistant on all three plans, Free included, described as "Refine and repurpose your content using AI" with "Unlimited credits". No plan metered it.Source: buffer.com/pricing, read 28 August 2026 |
| Media generation | Included in every plan. A campaign ships 3 image posts, 1 short video and 1 cross-post; on the free plan the media carries a watermark, which paid plans remove. | The pricing page listed no image or video generation allowance on any plan. Its one video feature was custom video covers, which pick a frame from a video you supply.Source: buffer.com/pricing, read 28 August 2026 |
| Free plan | A free plan that does not expire: 1 free campaign a week (3 posts, 1 video and 1 cross-post) plus 300 credits a month, refilled forever. No card, and free-plan media carries a watermark that paid plans remove. | The Free plan was listed at $0 forever for up to 3 channels, with 10 scheduled posts per channel and 1 user, and neither number moved when the billing toggle did.Source: buffer.com/pricing, read 28 August 2026 |
| Pricing model | Flat: $49.99, $99.99 or $199.99 a month ($39.99, $79.99 and $159.99 billed annually). Connecting another channel does not change the bill. | The pricing page opened with the yearly toggle already selected, and the plan cards put the yearly saving at "save 2 months". Billed monthly it listed Free at $0, Essentials at $6 a month per channel and Team at $12 a month per channel. Billed yearly the same plans read $5 and $10 a month per channel, charged as $60 and $120 a year per channel. Channels above 10 were priced lower per channel on either setting.Source: buffer.com/pricing, read 28 August 2026 |
| Publishing targets | Native to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X (Twitter), TikTok, YouTube, Threads, Pinterest, Bluesky, Google Business Profile, and WordPress. | The pricing page listed its publishable channels as Bluesky, Facebook pages and groups, Google Business, Instagram, LinkedIn, Mastodon, Pinterest, Start Page, Threads, TikTok, YouTube Shorts and X.Source: buffer.com/pricing, read 28 August 2026 |
Two things move the Buffer column and neither is visible at a glance. Its pricing page opens on yearly billing, so the first figure it shows you is the prepaid rate rather than the month-to-month one, and channels above 10 are priced lower per channel. Set the toggle yourself and step the channel count to your own roster before a number copied down on 28 August 2026 decides anything.
When SpeedRun wins
Nobody is making the posts
The owner is the marketing department and the drafts folder is empty. SpeedRun writes the caption, builds the image and cuts the video from your own site, so the week exists before you look at it. Buffer sells no tier that solves this: its pricing page listed no image or video generation at any price.
Video has to ship weekly
Every SpeedRun campaign includes 1 short video alongside 3 image posts and a cross-post, on the free plan as much as on Pro. A business that needs moving pictures every week either produces them, pays a freelancer, or uses a tool that generates them; only the third option appears on this page.
Ten channels and counting
Per-channel pricing climbs with the roster: ten Essentials channels were listed at $60 a month billed monthly, or $50 a month with the year prepaid, before anyone writes a word. Our $49.99 Starter is month to month, covers any roster, and includes the generation, and connecting another platform does not move it.
Who SpeedRun is not for
SpeedRun does one narrow job. If any of these describe your week, we would rather tell you now than lose you two weeks in.
The content already exists
A designer hands you finished creative every Monday, or your camera roll genuinely covers the week. Then the job is a reliable queue, and Buffer's Free plan holds 10 scheduled posts per channel across 3 channels at $0. Paying us $49.99 to generate what you already have is the wrong trade.
Three channels on a few dollars
At 1 to 3 channels, Essentials ran $6 to $18 a month billed monthly, or $5 to $15 a month with the year prepaid. Nothing we sell competes with either figure, because generation is what our price buys. A tight budget plus a supply of finished posts is Buffer's exact customer.
Mastodon
Buffer's pricing page listed Mastodon among the channels it publishes to. SpeedRun publishes to eleven platforms and Mastodon is not one of them. An audience that lives there is a concrete reason to pick Buffer today.
Who should pick which
Four buyers, one sentence each. Some of these verdicts go to Buffer.
The solo owner with no content and no time
SpeedRun. The week arrives generated from your website; your part is approving it.
The team with a designer and a full asset library
Buffer. The queue is the whole job, and per-channel pricing keeps a small roster cheap.
The shop that needs a video in every week's mix
SpeedRun. A short video ships in every campaign; Buffer's pricing page listed no video generation.
The audience on Threads, Bluesky or Mastodon
Buffer. It listed all three; we publish to none of them.
What switching actually costs
Leaving Buffer costs you your queue and your rhythm. Scheduled posts do not migrate: whatever sits in each channel's queue has to fire or be rebuilt, and a year of Essentials prepaid at $60 a channel, which is the annual rate rather than the month-to-month one, argues for staying until it laps. The workable path is overlap, since nothing in either tool prevents it: let the Buffer queue drain on its own schedule while your first SpeedRun campaigns run beside it.
The retraining bill is small. Connecting Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIn is the same OAuth screen either way, and the review queue replaces the compose window with three verbs: approve, edit, reject. The habit that actually changes is producing versus judging, and one generated week on your own brand tells you whether that trade suits you before any money moves.
Pricing philosophy
Buffer prices the pipe. On 28 August 2026 Essentials was listed at $6 a channel billed monthly and $5 a channel with the year prepaid, so the bill tracks your roster on either setting. Our Starter is $49.99 flat month to month, or $39.99 a month on the prepaid year. Compare like with like: at 3 channels Buffer was $18 against our $49.99, a gap of $31.99 in Buffer's favour, and prepaid it was $15 against our $39.99. At 10 channels Buffer reaches $60 billed monthly and our flat price is the lower one.
That arithmetic answers the queue question only. It says nothing about who makes the posts, and the making is the line every dollar on this page actually divides.
Our side is short: $49.99, $99.99 and $199.99 a month, every price published, and the pricing page is the canonical list.
Questions people ask on the way in
Is SpeedRun Social a Buffer alternative or a different product?
Both descriptions are earned. Buffer is a scheduling workspace: you supply the content, it queues, publishes and measures. SpeedRun generates the content (caption, image, short video from your Brand Kit) and then does the queueing and native publishing itself. For the scheduling half they overlap; for the making half only one of them shows up.
Can Buffer make images or videos?
Not by its own pricing page. On 28 August 2026 that page listed no image or video generation allowance on any plan, at any price, on either billing mode. Its AI Assistant sits on all three plans with unlimited credits, and what it does is refine and repurpose content you supply; the one video feature listed picks a cover frame out of a video you already have. SpeedRun generates the image and the short video together with the caption in every campaign, free plan included.
Which is cheaper, Buffer or SpeedRun Social?
Buffer, at almost any small roster, if the posts already exist. Compare the same billing mode on both sides: $6 a channel each month against our $49.99 flat, or $5 a channel prepaid against our $39.99 prepaid. At 3 channels Buffer was $18 a month; by 10 channels it reaches $60 and our flat price is the lower one. What the flat price buys is the generation itself, so the cheaper tool depends entirely on whether the content is already made.
Does SpeedRun schedule and publish, or only generate?
It runs the whole path. Approved posts publish natively to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X (Twitter), TikTok, YouTube, Threads, Pinterest, Bluesky, Google Business Profile, and WordPress on the schedule you set, and nothing publishes without approval unless you deliberately turn autopilot on.
Do I keep what SpeedRun makes if I cancel?
Everything generated for you stays yours: publish it, download it, edit it, reuse it. Cancelling stops the next bill, access runs to the end of the period already paid, and no contract or cancellation fee sits in the way.
How current are the Buffer numbers here?
Each one was read off buffer.com/pricing on 28 August 2026, with the billing toggle checked in both positions and the channel stepper moved, and each links to its source next to the figure. One thing to know if you check us: that page loads on yearly billing, so the price it shows you first is the prepaid rate, not the month-to-month one. Rates and caps also move without notice, so open the page before a number decides anything.
What does the SpeedRun Social free plan include?
300 credits a month, refilled forever, and 1 free campaign a week: 3 posts, 1 video and 1 cross-post. No card is required. Media made on the free plan is watermarked; paid plans remove the watermark.
